Kaddu Raita Recipe

Kaddu Raita is a simple dish and is often made along with any other Vrat dish such Vrat Ke Aloo. Kaddu Raita acts as a side along with other dishes to makes a full meal. It can be made during any type of fast or festivals such as Janamashtami, Navratri, Maha Sivratri, Savan fasts etc. The dish can also be prepared during special functions and parties or any other festivals and it will add just the right flavour to your meal.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients for Kaddu Raita

  • 100 g Pumpkin Kaddu
  • 1 cup Natural Yogurt Dahi
  • 3/4 tsp Rock Salt Sendha Namak
  • 1 tsp Red chillies powder Lal Mirch
  • 1 tsp Roasted Cumin Seeds Bhuna Jeera

Instructions

Preparation Steps to make Kaddu Raita

  • Peel outer layer or skin of Pumpkin and cut it into small pieces.
    100 g Pumpkin
  • Now wash them and put them in a utensil. Add 2 cups of water and put it on high flame to boil it.

  • Cover it with a lid and let the pumpkin pieces boil for another 5 - 7 mins.

  • Check if the pumpkin pieces are soft by pressing them a bit with a spoon or spatula. If the pieces are soft turn off the flame, drain excess water, mash the pumpkin pieces. Let it cool for a minute or two.

How to make Kaddu Raita

  • Take Natural Yogurt in a bowl and add mashed pumpkin to it.
    1 cup Natural Yogurt, 100 g Pumpkin
  • Now add Rock Salt, Red Chillies powder and Roasted Cumin seeds to it. Mix it well.
    3/4 tsp Rock Salt, 1 tsp Red chillies powder, 1 tsp Roasted Cumin Seeds
  • Your Kaddu Raita is ready to be served.

Notes

Few considerations while cooking and serving -
  • If the Yogurt is too sour then you can add a little sugar while making it. Also, if you prefer sweet Kaddu Raita then you can add Sugar instead of Rock Salt or add just a little bit of it to get that extra flavour.
  • Choose a yellow Pumpkin to make Kaddu Raita as it tastes better.
