Instructions

Preparation Steps to make Spinach Paratha or Palak Paratha

  • Pluck Spinach leaves and wash them thoroughly.
    100 g Spinach
  • Put spinach leaves in blender and make a puree. You may need to add very little amount of water to make the puree else spinach will stick to blender jar.
    100 g Spinach
  • Wash and Chop Green Chilies
    10 g Green Chilies

How to make dough for Spinach Paratha or Palak Paratha

  • To prepare dough take wheat flour in a bowl or broad utensil and add chopped Green Chili, Salt, Carom seeds, Red chilies powder and 1tsp Vegetable Oil in it.
1 cup Wheat Flour, 10 g Green Chilies, 1/2 tsp Salt, 1/4 tsp Red chilies powder, 1/4 tsp Carom Seed
  • Now knead it using Palak puree. Once done, leave the dough for 5 mins so it will become soft. You may need little amount of water while kneading if your dough is too dry.
  • Divide the dough into 4 equal sized balls.
  • You are now ready to make Palak Paratha.

How to make Spinach Paratha or Palak Paratha

  • Take a frying pan and put it on gas to heat up.
  • Now, take the dough ball and flatten it using a rolling pin to 3 – 4 inches circular shape and apply some Vegetable Oil and fold it into triangular shape.
    2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • Roll the dough ball to create a triangular shaped Paratha using the rolling pin until it is 6 - 7 inches in diameter. Make sure you apply the pressure evenly while rolling and occasionally sprinkle small quantity of dry wheat flour so that Paratha does not stick on the surface.
  • Once done put your Palak Paratha in the frying pan and let it cook for a minute on one side, flip it over to the other side and apply some Vegetable Oil. Again after a minute or so flip the Paratha and apply some more Vegetable oil on the other side. Ensure the gas is on medium flame or else the Palak Paratha will not be crispy and soft.
  • Roast it for sometime from both sides. Ensure it does not burn by keeping on gas for too long.
  • Your Palak Paratha is ready to be served with some Coriander Chutney, tomato ketchup, pickles or curd and hot Tea.

Notes

Few considerations to take while cooking and serving -
1. Since Palak is a root vegetable hence you must wash it properly to get rid of any soil or dust sticking to the roots and leaves.
2. While washing do not keep Spinach in water for a long time else it will spoil very quickly.
3. You can serve Palak Paratha or Spinach Paratha with some pickles, curd, tomato sauce or green sauce with tea or coffee.
4. If you do not have a blender / mixer or would like to try a different alternative for Palak Paratha then you can chop Palak leaves instead of making a puree. In such case you would need water to knead the dough and should mix chopped Palak while kneading.
